Was the School Data Hacked or Not at The End?

Rumors have been circulating about a massive data leak in January from the school new email addresses at Microsoft . People from inside claim that virtually all school files, student data, marks, emails, confidential parent-school correspondence, documentation etc etc have been leaked.

The school administration obviously has got absolutely no idea how to handle this situation and what exactly has been affected. People familiar with the matter have explained the "technical team" of the school have absolutely no idea how the school data was hacked and what exactly was lost or leaked. They said they even did not have an idea when exactly this had occurred. They also have no idea if the vulnerability still exists and if data is still leaking at the moment too.

The only action that the management took was to warn the teachers to change their email passwords and that basically was all that was done, our sources said.

Unfortunately no official information has been sent to the parents and what they need to do to protect the data of their children. The school is still silent about the incident.

We contacted some technicians who have knowledge in security and they explained the best approach for parents and children is to terminate using school emails as soon as possible but rather communicate through their own ones. Also avoid logging from school computers to personal accounts as there may be key loggers installed for monitoring purposes.

This also raises questions about how pupils' information is protected in general by the institution. Are they GDPR compliant, do they take the necessary security precautions? Do they have the capacity to handle personal and sensitive information of students, parents and families?

We as parents all need IMMEDIATE ANSWERS!

  • At the time I was a student at the school, some years ago, they did very poor to protect personal data. At the time, some computers in ICT classes had direct access to a mail server that had documents with login credentials to administrative emails and a database of all pupils and their parents with full names and contact details.
